United Methodists Helping Victims of Harvey

One of the things that makes me proud to be a United Methodist is how they respond in times of disaster. Many United Methodist Church buildings are designed to be emergency centers and their doors will be open.

They have a committee called UMCOR–United Methodist Committee On Relief that is active in helping people in times of crisis.  They were in the Houston area before the hurricane hit with supplies and emergency kits that were prepared earlier this summer by volunteers at Annual Conferences–they keep supplies stored for the next disaster.  A fund is set up that will give 100 percent of the money given directly to the effort (administrative costs are covered by other means).  Mission teams will be there throughout the ordeal and will continue to work there for years until the work is done.

Mission teams are still helping rebuild places that were affected in past disasters.

You can give your support to them through any local United Methodist Church or you can find them at http://www.umcor.org/.
